We have over 30 years experience with pet care through personal and work caring for pets from the smallest of animals to the largest of dogs.
Nicky has completed first aid training for dogs also various courses with IMDT including practical instructor courses for dog & puppy training.
We take safety very serious as when dogs are in our care running and playing anything can happen thus us investing in GPS tracking devices so they can be tracked at all times.
In 2012 Pickles Pets was born. Having worked for the past seven and a half years in Early Years Child Care and Education I decided to return to my passion, that of working with animals.
On leaving school I worked at Goose Green Kennels. (Now the Blue Cross Centre.)
I left the kennels to start a family and once my eldest son started school I returned to work working part time in a pet store in Bitterne handling small animals, birds and a parrot called Charlie along with my other duties of helping customers and cash handling.
I left the pet store to work for Guide Dogs for the Blind where I spent many happy years in kennels and gained my kennel management certificate dealing with lots of breeds of dog from Labrador’s, Retriever’s to Shepherd’s, Labradoodle’s, Leonberger’s but to name a few.
I left Guide Dogs to work full time as a manager for another pet store company as the new store was to be opened in Eastleigh where I stayed until having my second son thirteen and a half years after my first son.
I decided not to return to pet store management and was approached by my former employer Guide Dogs who offered me a position working back with the dogs in kennels at the weekends. This fitted with my family commitments and gladly returned, whilst at guide dogs during this period a lot of changes had to be made and I was promoted to Boarder Coordinator where I was responsible for visiting homes across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset to interview potential Guide Dog Boarders and then work alongside trainers to train new volunteers in handling and caring for our dogs of all ages.
Unfortunately due to changes and cuts in Guide Dogs I was made redundant this is when I retrained and moved into early years child care and education. I have through all my life from a very young age had animals of all sorts and been with all breeds of dogs from your smallest to the largest.
I now feel it’s the right time in my life to return to my passion of animals and getting to know their families.
